Kids Journal Writing
Parents are always looking for ways to interest their children in the world around them, to get them to notice what is going on and think about it. Kids journal writing is one way of getting children to think about things they have seen and heard during their day.
They can spend some time each day writing what they did in a special book, thinking about events they might have seen, things they might have overheard, and conversations they might have had with friends. By encouraging them to write in this way, parents help them become both more aware and more knowledgeable about the world.
Kids will pay more attention to what is going on around them if they want to remember things to write down later. In doing so, they may start to think more and in more detail about what they are seeing, and ask questions. Instead of merely observing and forgetting about what they have seen, they will think about it, write it down, and ask their parents questions about it later. In the short term, this will lead to greater knowledge about their immediate world. In the long term, kids journal writing can lead to greater curiosity and a desire to find more information. Kids who keep journals will be so used to paying attention to and analyzing what they see, it will become habit and even second nature. This skill will serve them well later in life, when their well being might depend on observation and thinking skills.
